چکیده

Free radical induced lipid peroxidation has been implicated in pathogenesis of several pathological disorders. Lipid peroxidation products malonaldehyde (MDA) was analyzed in 25 patients of leukoplakia, 47 patients of oral submucous fibrosis, 21 patients of candidiasis, 67 patients of dental caries, 62 patients of oral cancer and 50 patients of healthy subject served as a control. Significantly elevated levels of MDA were observed in periodontitis, leukoplakia, oral submucous fibrosis and cancer as compared to controls (p<0.05). These findings indicate a role of free radicals in its pathogenesis.

Aldehydes in cigarette smoke react with the lipid peroxidation product malonaldehyde to form fluorescent protein adducts on lysines.

Cigarette smoke is a risk factor for the development of several diseases, but the exact mechanism responsible has not been well-characterized. Because modification, or adducting, of biomolecules is thought to mediate the toxic effects observed from exposure to a wide variety of harmful chemicals, this study investigated the ability of cigarette smoke to produce specific adducts on a peptide to ...

Lipid peroxidation in adrenal and testicular microsomes.

Studies were carried out to determine the actions of and interactions between ascorbate, NADPH, Fe2+, and Fe3+ on lipid peroxidation in adrenal and testicular microsomes. Ascorbate-induced malonaldehyde production was maximal in adrenal and testicular microsomes at an ascorbate concentration of 1 X 10(-4)M. Fe2+, at levels between 10(-6) and 10(-3)M, produced concentration-dependent increases i...

Evaluation of the Salivary Total Antioxidant Capacity and Lipid Peroxidation Status in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial disorder with various disturbances in biochemical processes such as antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation. The aim of present study was evaluation of the oxidative stress markers in saliva of T2DM patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, 80 (40 T2DM and 40 control) individuals were assessed. The salivary total antioxidan...

An unidentified inhibitor of lipid peroxidation in intestinal mucosa.

Lipid peroxidation in vitro was tested by malonaldehyde production in gastrointestinal mucosa and compared with other tissues. It was observed that gastrointestinal mucosa was resistant to both non-enzymatic and enzymatic lipid peroxidation. This was due to the presence of an inhibitor of lipid peroxidation in the membranous fractions of intestinal mucosa. This inhibitor was capable of inhibiti...
